What we publish

We publish books with intellectual or imaginative substance, distinctive voices and lasting value, with an emphasis on careful editorial judgement, considered production and respect for the reader's attention.
Our interests span ideas, culture, human experience and imaginative storytelling. The press is not defined by a single subject, genre or author.
Our books may be literary, commercial, serious, entertaining, intimate, provocative or difficult to categorise. What connects them is substance, distinctive voice, strong craft and respect for the reader.
Our philosophy
Attention is worth respecting.
We are interested in work with something genuinely at stake: an idea worth examining, a story worth entering, a perspective worth encountering or an imaginative world worth inhabiting.
Publishing should involve judgement as well as enthusiasm. A compelling premise matters, but so does what lies beneath it. Commercial potential matters, but it is not enough on its own. Difficulty is not a virtue in itself, and accessibility is not a compromise.
We are drawn to books that feel deliberate rather than manufactured, distinctive rather than interchangeable, and capable of retaining value beyond the immediate moment in which they appear.
